Open science considerations for descriptive research in developmental science

چکیده
Descriptive developmental research seeks to document, describe and analyze the conditions under which infants children live learn. Here, we articulate how open-science practices can be incorporated into descriptive increase its transparency, reliability replicability. To date, most have been oriented toward experimental rather than studies, it unclear translate (e.g., preregistration) for that is more in nature. We discuss a number of unique considerations research, taking inspiration from existing providing examples recent ongoing studies. By embracing scientific culture where open science coexist productively, will better positioned generate comprehensive theories development understand variability across communities cultures.

Open science and reproducible research.
“Scientists should communicate the data they collect and the models they create, to allow free and open access, and in ways that are intelligible, assessable and usable for other specialists . . . Where data justify it, scientists should make them available in an appropriate data repository.” So said the Royal Society last week, in its report Science as an Open Enterprise: Open Data for Open Sc...
متن کاملOpen Science and Research Reproducibility
Many scientists, journals and funders are concerned about the low reproducibility of many scientific findings. One approach that may serve to improve the reliability and robustness of research is open science. Here I argue that the process of pre-registering study protocols, sharing study materials and data, and posting preprints of manuscripts may serve to improve quality control procedures at...
متن کاملDemonstrating Open Science for Modeling & Simulation Research
Most conference and journal publications present contributions based on research artefacts (data, results, software, etc.) that are difficult for researchers to access. Open science aims to promote open access to research presented in academic works. Ideally, the software, data and results presented in a scientific article should be available for other scientists to use, validate and build upon...
متن کاملOpen Science Project in White Dwarf Research
I will propose a new way of advancing white dwarf research. Open science is a method of doing research that lets everyone who has something to say about the subject take part in the problem solving process. Already now, the amount of information we gather from observations, theory and modelling is too vast for any one individual to comprehend and turn into knowledge. And the amount of informati...
متن کاملGUEST COMMENTARY Descriptive Science
The Instructions to Authors for Infection and Immunity state that “IAI will not consider papers that are . . . purely descriptive” (3). When applied to science, the word “descriptive” has acquired dismissive or pejorative connotations and is frequently provided as justification for rejection of a manuscript or grant application. Given the widespread use of this adjective and its profound implic...
